Jamie McHugh is a somatic movement specialist, multidisciplinary artist and fine art photographer living on the Mendocino Coast of California. He has been teaching movement-based work since 1978, was a primary faculty member at Tamalpa Institute, and for the past 40 years has been developing Somatic Expression®, an integrative approach to the art and craft of embodiment. His contemporary abstract nature photographs dissolve the boundary between photography and painting.
I met Jamie in 2015, after I invited him to lead one of Anna Halprin's Planetary Dance rituals for Dance Camp Northwest. We crossed paths again in California, and I was happy to host him on a visit to Berlin in the Spring of 2019. I was inspired by how Jamie incorporates embodiment practices into his being in the world, which is also apparent in the video interview we did.
