Stephanie Maher

Stephanie Maher is an American dancer, teacher and visionary. Originally from Rhode Island, she lived in New York and San Francisco, before coming to Berlin in the mid 1990's. She got involved with the squatting scene and the K77 community,  and she co-created the K77 dance studio.

In 1999, Stephanie and her German husband Uli bought a farm in a small village in Brandenburg. She became the founder and artistic director of "Ponderosa", an internationally known art centre, community and gathering place for experimental forms of dance, improvisation and social relations.

I met Stephanie in 2019, on a visit with American movement teacher Jamie McHugh. Before sitting down for a lively video interview, she gave us a grand tour of both Ponderosa as well as a new big communal project in a neighboring village.
